Why Join PMA

Who We Are:

PMA is your advocate for all things Pickleball in the City of Mississauga. We liaise with the City for changes to existing public facilities which include additional times for play at City recreation centres and for Pickleball lines being added to outdoor tennis facilities.

PMA is your main point of contact for the Pickleball Association of Ontario (PAO) and Pickleball Canada. Through these groups members are informed of upcoming tournament play across the country.

Membership Benefits:

The PMA runs several member driven events during the year. Our Fun Day is usually held in September at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre. It is open for both competitive and recreational players. We also have an Open House event each year to profile this growing sport.

As a PMA member you have access to discounted rates at local vendors. More are being added all the time. Check out our website for up to date details on exclusive member deals.

PMA offers free lessons at South Common Community Centre during open drop in times several times a week. Instructors are members of the PMA and are avid Pickleball players. We focus on beginners only.

At our Annual General Meeting, members are usually offered a free light lunch or dinner underwritten by the generosity of our sponsors.

PMA offers up to date information on play locations and also facilitates the yearly OSGA 55+ Pickleball tournament. This tournament is open to all people 55 years young and winners compete in regional events as representatives of the City of Mississauga. Members have gone on to win medals at the Ontario level.

Value Accomplishments:

Since the inception of the PMA, many forward thinking goals have been achieved. Some of these include: • Painted Pickleball lines on public tennis courts throughout the city with more scheduled for 2019
• Increased drop-in times at City of Mississauga Community Centres
• PMA benefits from reduced court rental rates, as we are affiliated with the City and Sports Council

  • PMA demonstrated Pickleball to the Peel District School Board (25 teachers) and they continue to encourage their schools to add Pickleball to their curriculum; including the Catholic School Board. As of December 2018, over 50% of schools at both school boards have embraced Pickleball.
  • During the summer of 2018, in partnership with the City, PMA managed and hosted lessons for beginners and competitive play for three hours, 3 times per week at the Paramount Centre. The program was an outstanding success as attested by the 1,400+ who attended!

The Future and Beyond:

Future goals for the PMA include permanent outdoor Pickleball only courts and plans for an invitational tournament. With increasing membership, our voice with the City will hold more weight and allow us to move forward with plans to make Pickleball the premier sport in Mississauga. You may contact the association through our website at www.pickleballmississauga.com.

Sheridan Tennis Club  For the third year, we resumed playing outdoor Pickleball in late April, check out their web-site www.sheridantennis.ca for more details.  STC operates until the end of October or early November, weather permitting. STC has windscreens and LED lighting for evening play until 11pm.  All four courts have professionally painted Pickleball lines. You can register and pay online.

Mississauga Valley Community Centre In August 2017, the City added Pickleball lines on the other two of the four tennis courts. All four tennis courts now have Pickleball lines. They also added tennis straps allowing players to adjust the centre of the net by two inches. MVCC is a drop-in public court facility and designated times (2 hour periods) were made available for PMA members and their guests.

South Common Community Centre In January 2018, PMA negotiated a new drop-in time on Wednesdays for 90 minutes beginning at 1:15 pm, ending at 2:45 pm. This drop-in time is devoted to introducing beginners to the game, which allows them to get familiar with Pickleball rules and improve their skills before playing at other community centre where play is more competitive. PMA truly appreciates the help of volunteers who introduce players to the game.

Frank McKechnie Community Centre Started a drop-in program on March 28th, 2017; play time is Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on two courts.
